The Future Stages Festival is an annual community celebration of young performing artists in Kansas City. This spotlight on youth performances and family friendly programming supports the growth of future artists with a focus on engaging youth performers. All ages can experience the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts as artists and patrons through the Future Stages Festival. The free event included a diverse array of performances along with interactive arts activities. The Future Stages Festival takes place every year through the Kauffman Center’s Spotlight on Youth program. This provides opportunities for youth and community arts organizations. Each year, about 25 groups are chosen through a competitive process. Visit kauffmancenter.orgRead More →

The Rabbit Hole hails itself as a visionary center for the children’s book chartered to create new and extraordinary experiences around literature. After my first visit I have to say it is all that and more! The hope of revitalizing a love of reading in Kansas City’s children is at the heart of the world’s first immersive children’s literary art gallery. Animal Tales and Trails at Crown Center

Some of our favorites over the years have featured the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz and a Storybook Village. Before you break out the warm blankets and start cuddling by the fire, know that there are a myriad of reasons to keep the heat up on your social life in October. Best of all, they are all free! In March 2014, I did my first Free Kansas City challenge. A month’s worth of activities and events that didn’t cost a penny. Free is my favorite word. After all, I don’t think being rich should be a requirement for living a good life.Read More →
