During the month of March I challenged myself to find at least one free event everyday. I posted all of them on  KiaraLovesKC’s Facebook page. Any time I see the word “free” used in the description of something happening in Kansas City it grabs my attention. And those who are reading this may be surprised to know that I see that word a lot. Most of the entertainment I enjoy in the city is free or extremely cheap. (Remember, my favorite theater shows movies for under $5.) Local eateries came together to see which deserved the crown of best sweets in The Pitch Sugar Rush. Let me say the competition was tough. All the restaurants brought their A-Game but a few just shined brighter than the rest.   The winner was Accurso’s Italian Restaurant for the second year in a row. Although, I think they had an unfair advantage. Their melon granita with mint and basil. Travel on the yellow brick road through the land of Oz as Crown Center celebrates the beloved motion picture, The Wizard of Oz, 75th anniversary. Each vibrantly painted section has interactive prompts to delight adults and children alike. You can watch as Dorothy gets sucked up in the tornado that takes her to Oz. Meet the Munchkins, Glinda, the Good Witch, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and The Cowardly Lion. Walk through the evil enchanted forest to The Wicked Witch’s castle. Fly in the Wizard’s hot air balloon. A section of the exhibit is dedicated to display Jane Albright’s collection of Wizard of Oz memorabilia.Read More →

I’m sure several types of people will relate to my story of being in Kansas City. Those who live here and love it. (You’re an awesome and special kind of person.) That’s where I fit in and I’m proud. Those, if you’re still reading, who just thought, “What kind of crazy person loves Kansas City? I’m trying to get out of this dump!”. Also, those who are here but don’t know much about it. Maybe you’re visiting, just moved, or don’t get out much. I’ve been in each category at different points of my life. I grew up in Kansas City and have lived hereRead More →
