Last weekend the Westin Crown Center was transformed into a knee-slapping, song-belting, square-dancing, guitar-strumming music festival. To be exact, Folk Alliance International presented the annual Kansas City Folk Festival. If you happened to be there you got a giant serving of folk music from Kansas City and around the world. Before dining at Krokstrom Klubb & Market, the only Scandinavian cuisine I had experienced came from Kansas City’s annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival. Last year I tried meatballs in potato bread with a lingonberry sauce. It was delicious. My first time at Krokstrom Klubb & Market completely blew that out of the water. Each year, 6th graders at Border Star Montessori take part in the Montessori Model United Nations program. The year culminates in March with a trip to New York to be a part of the Model UN conference. This year, the kids will be representing the Republic of India.  Students fundraise throughout the year at bake sales, school dances, movie nights, etc. The Border Star Montessori movie night featured Muppets Take Manhattan. Waldo Pizza provided pepperoni and cheese pizzas. A highlight of the evening was raffle giveaways of prizes from local Brookside businesses.   The total cost for this trip is estimated at $24,000.
